Charles Cross Receives Thomas Anderson
Lifetime Achievement Award

Charles Cross, owner and founder of Cross Enterprises , Melvindale Michigan was honored with the Thomas Anderson Lifetime Achievement Award at the Schwing dealer meeting held in Las Vegas in conjunction with World of Concrete 2008. The award was inaugurated in 2006 to honor outstanding contributors to Schwing America and the concrete pumping industry. The award was inspired by longtime president of Schwing America Tom Anderson whose retirement from the company prompted Gerhard Schwing to conceive the award. It is not an annual award but presented to select individuals at Schwing’s discretion.

In presenting the award, Brian Hazelton, said, “No one is more deserving, no one has worked harder or longer to further the pumping industry and Schwing than Charlie Cross.” Cross is one of the first distributors for Schwing in North America and pioneered the method of concrete pumping from their offices in Michigan and Florida. In accepting the award, Charles remarked to the Schwing dealers in attendance, “I owe a piece of this award to everyone in this room who has helped me and who helped build this great industry into what it is today. I especially want to thank Gerhard Schwing and the entire Schwing family for their support and the excellent concrete pumps they have provided.”

Past recipients of the award include: Steve Merli, founder of Merli Concrete Pumping, Gardena, CA, Duane Perrin, founder of American Standard Concrete Pumping, Los Angeles, CA, Dale Bone, Sr, co-founder of Brundage-Bone Concrete Pumping, Kent, WA, Ken Williams, founder of Pumpcrete, Toronto and Ray Smith, founder of Smeco, Kenner, LA.

Charles Cross’ name will join previous recipients of the award on a plaque at Schwing America, Inc.’s headquarters in White Bear, Minnesota.
