SCHWING Boom Inspection Process

In order to conform to the strict standards required by ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and to separate from companies and individuals who falsely claim to be able to perform SCHWING Boom Inspections, SCHWING America Inc (SAI) has recently made changes to our requirements that dictate if a Boom Inspection is considered “SCHWING Approved” or inspected to OEM standards.

Boom Inspections performed on SCHWING equipment will no longer be based on if an individual is considered “SCHWING Certified” to perform inspections. Instead, the inspection itself shall be considered “SCHWING Approved” if all necessary criteria has been met, which is listed below:

  • The inspector must have attended a SCHWING Boom Inspection seminars since 2022
  • Current revision of the Structural and Operational Periodic Inspection reports must be used (click here for links to each form).
  • Inspection reports must be sent in to boomrepair@SCHWING.com within 30 days of completion and be Certified Approved by SAI
  • Repair Request Form 30007009 must be filled out and the appropriate pictures sent to boomrepair@SCHWING.com for all structural non-conformances.
  • Upon completion and submittal of an inspection, the SCHWING Quality Department will review if the above criteria has been met and determine if any areas on the report must be re-inspected or changed.

SCHWING ONLY takes liability of any failed componentry if the above criteria is met approved.

NOTE* Even if a report is approved, SCHWING will not be liable for anything missing/not reported in an inspection. Examples of this include if a trained inspector fails to report a structural issue, is not thorough enough in the report, or pencil whips the report.

If the SCHWING Quality Department approves the report, SCHWING will issue a completed Boom Inspection sticker that shall be placed onto the machine that was inspected. This inspection sticker is marked with Rev. 2. Any SCHWING stickers applied that do not have this revision are no longer recognized by SAI

For questions about this process, please contact boomrepair@schwing.com or call 651-653-5438.
